A man from Derbyshire (UK) has been given a 14-week suspended prison sentence and 200 hours of unpaid work for strangling a cat. He has also been banned from keeping animals for life. The man strangled the 4 year-old family cat after an argument with his wife about its behaviour. His wife reported him to the police and RSPCA. The man claims to have regretted his actions. There is worrying news from India of a new threat to the survival of endangered tigers. The tigers are at risk of contracting Distemper virus from stray dogs that are reported to be being dumped in the forest near the Tadoba-Andhari tiger reserve. Last year four tiger deaths were thought to be related to the Distemper virus, with only 1,700 tigers left in the wild in India.

An extremely well reviewed book from TheOatmeal.com, including favourite jokes such as ‘How to Pet a Kitty’ and new material. Obviously not a serious book about cats, and not for children, but an excellent present for any cat-lover!
We’re pretty chuffed to come across these…Tailored walking jackets for cats, hand-made by a small UK company to your cat’s measurements, double-sided reversible material, secured by velcro on wide comfortable straps. We think they’re an absolute bargain!
The owner of this company is also, to our knowledge, one of the ONLY people in the UK designing (and ultimately making) a running wheel for cats…we await news of the final design and the product being open to orders, so we’ll keep you posted!

We can’t get enough of Cat Heaven Island (Japan), but recently Japanese photographer Fubirai finished 5 years of photographing and documenting the semi-feral cat population, and the results are spectacular! Cats at the Cats Protection centre in Belfast have been expressing their artistic skills using an iPad, with the aid of a squeaky mouse that passes across the screen. We particularly love the fact that Brutus the cat’s artwork appeared to have a ‘jungle theme’!! Click here for story.
